Life’s a Beach

There’s a saying where I’m from:

Life’s a beach.

And it is, too. Waves that I can’t control often crash down on me. They dump stuff on me and rip stuff away from me. But they always leave me more beautiful than I started.

Several years ago now a teenager asked me, “Miss Sarah, what was your favorite age?”

I thought about it, then answered, “Every year gets better.”

2010 was a tough year, but I had some of the sweetest moments of my life during this year. Moments of laughter—like the three hour “lunch” at Sweet Tomatoes in Vancouver, Washington with my friends Dale, Bridget, Nick, Kari, Terrance and Wendy—where I laughed until I was practically purple and was shaking so hard I could barely eat. And moments of tears—like watching my brother’s fairytale princess bride walk down the stairs and down the aisle to marry him. I wouldn’t trade those moments for anything. And I can’t wait to see what 2011 holds for us all.

Happy New Year everybody! Thank you for helping to make my life more beautiful!
